Sunday we walked through the end of Esther's story. Haman built gallows for Mordecai. He ended up hanging from them himself.
That part's satisfying. But the verse that actually stuck with me came earlier in the message.
"If the world hates you, know that it has hated Me before it hated you." John 15:18.
Mordecai didn't bow to Haman. Not out of stubbornness. Out of conviction. And it cost him. One man's straight back turned into a plot to wipe out an entire people.
That's what happens when you won't bow. Somebody notices. Somebody gets angry.
You've felt a smaller version of this. You hold a line at work and get labeled difficult. You say no to something everyone else says yes to and the room goes quiet. You raise your kids by a standard nobody else on the block is using and you get the looks.
Jesus didn't promise His followers an easy ride. He promised the opposite. If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own. But you're not of the world. That's why it pushes back.
Here's what Sunday reminded me. Opposition isn't proof you're doing something wrong. It's often proof you're doing something right.
And here's the part we skip past too fast. Haman's hatred, his plot, his gallows, none of it derailed God's plan. It became the very thing God used to save His people. The opposition you're facing right now hasn't slipped past God's notice either.
A question to sit with: Where are you quietly bowing to keep the peace, and what would it cost you to stand up straight instead?
