Scripture of the week
1 Peter 2:13-16. "Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every human authority. Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil, live as God's slaves."
This matters this week because a lot of guys use freedom as an excuse to answer to nobody.
This week's Daily Forged: Freedom That Serves
Peter isn't asking men to be doormats. He's asking them to trust God's order, even when the authority over them is inconvenient or flat out imperfect.
Real freedom was never the absence of submission. It's the presence of purpose behind it.
Here's the part that stings a little. Rebellion against authority gets dressed up as strength constantly. Guys wear "I don't answer to anybody" like it's a badge. Peter calls that what it actually is when it's done for its own sake, misuse of freedom.
A man who's truly free doesn't need to prove it by resisting every structure around him. He proves it by how he uses that freedom, to serve rather than to excuse bad behavior.
Ask yourself straight. Where have you resisted authority out of pride instead of conviction?
Podcast recap
This week Paul & Joey sat down with Fred Fredrickson for an episode that asks one question you can't dodge. If your family is really your priority, where does the best version of you actually go?
Fred doesn't soften it. He tells his own story of chasing goals hard enough that home stopped feeling like home to him.
Paul gets into the cell phone battery analogy, how you drain yourself before you ever walk through the door, and why "I'm providing for you" can quietly turn into the excuse you use to disconnect from the people you're providing for.
You'll also hear a simple car decompression habit, leading first in your marriage instead of waiting on your wife to move first, and how to ask for what you need without stealing more time from your family.
Joey closes it out with a tribute to his own dad, and a line worth writing down. Be the thermostat in your home, not the thermometer.
This Week at Home
Try the car habit from this week's episode.
Before you walk inside, sit for two minutes. Hand the day to God. Then walk in as a husband and a dad, not as whatever's left of you after work.
Tonight, ask your wife or your kids one question. "Am I leading first here, or waiting on you to move first?" Then sit with the answer instead of defending yourself.
Challenge
Identify one authority structure in your life you've been fighting internally.
A boss, a church leader, a season you didn't choose, doesn't matter which.
Choose respect toward it today, even if nothing about the structure itself has changed.
Community update
Real news this week. We're bringing Fred Fredrickson onto the team on a monthly basis, sometimes more.
Fred's a life transformation coach, and if you caught this week's episode, you already know why we wanted him closer to what we're building. Give him a follow, @coachfredofficial.
We've also got a guest coming in mid September that's got Joey fired up. James Williams, from Dark Waters, over 600,000 subscribers on YouTube. Look for that interview soon. In the meantime, check out his channel here.
A note from Joey
The question this episode asks won't leave me alone. What or who is truly first in my life.
Not what I'd say in a meeting. What actually gets my sharpest hours and my most patient version.
If the honest answer isn't Jesus first, then everything under that answer needs a second look. Family, work, this community, all of it.
I'm not writing that from a place of having it figured out. I'm writing it because I asked myself the same question this week and didn't love every answer.
Every brotherhood starts with one guy forwarding this to another guy. Be that guy.
This thing runs on more than good intentions, it takes real time and real money to keep going. If you've got room to help out this week, it goes straight back into keeping it alive for the guys who need it. Never required, always appreciated.
