This week I'm running games at Vacation Bible School. No stage, no mic, no highlight reel. Just a bunch of kids and a guy trying to be one bright spot in their week.
Turns out that's exactly what Sunday's sermon was about.
Pastor Lamar walked through Esther 2:3-23. Esther didn't stroll into the palace and get handed influence. She spent years in preparation before anyone even knew her name.
Here's the line that stuck with me: our greatest influence is usually built in hidden places before it's ever seen on a public stage.
We want the platform. God is all about the prep.
That's also why chasing after every new celebrity conversion is risky. They haven't been tested yet. They haven't gone through the fire. Loud and new is not the same as proven. Be careful who you're following just because they're both.
God doesn't waste anything. Not the pain, not the setbacks, not the seasons where nobody was watching. He was positioning Esther the whole time, for a purpose only she could fill. He's doing the same with you, right now, in whatever hidden room you're sitting in this week.
And no matter how high you go, you never outgrow humility or service. That's the whole reason I'll be chasing kids around a church gym all week instead of doing something that gets noticed.
One more gut check from Lamar: do your coworkers know you follow Christ without you ever having said a word?
Question to sit with this week: what is God preparing you for in the parts of your life nobody sees?
